Holiday Game Festival at College Park

I along with many other GCOMers -- several of whom came from the Baltimore area and even further -- attended this event that I would estimate attracted a crowd of 200 or more. (I'm estimating these figures by the raffle ticket numbers that were auctioned off--not sure there is an actual official attendance count.)

There were tables set up for pre-arranged demos with either the game designers themselves or volunteers (the volunteer teachers included many GCOMers) plus several tables of open gaming in the back. The feature event was hourly raffles plus $100 cash prizes for winners of trivia competitions using NorthStar's game Wits and Wagers. I participated in both the open gaming and in a couple of the Wits and Wagers competitions -- the event ran all day from 11 AM until around 9 PM. Ed Fahrmeier, a frequent guest at various GCOM locations, was one of the big winners at Wits and Wagers. Congratulations, Ed!

I took the opportunity to distribute some GCOM and Games Days flyers, so hopefully the event may draw more folks into GCOM and organized gaming activities. I played Settlers with a guy from Holland who I think is a student or intern at U of MD. Played several favorites, including Mermaid Rain, Kreta, Hoity Toity and Louis XIV. Dominic, Satish, Nate and everyone at NorthStar should be commended for running an excellent, people-friendly event. It seemed that everyone who attended had a great time.
